This course is designed to introduce students to the globally transformative era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Students will investigate the dynamic period from the 1890s to the eve of the World War II and the political, social, economic, and cultural shifts that shaped the modern world in the last century. Students will consider the rise of empires and modern nation-states, the impacts of industrialization and global trade, the consequences of colonialism, and the complex interplay of forces that defined the tumultuous period of the early 20th century.
