Students will learn pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and pharmacotherapeutics of major drug categories and nursing implications related to use. The ethical and legal aspects of drug administration and the context of drugs in the treatment of disease will be discussed. Students will explore a variety of complementary and alternative healing modalities to augment holistic wellness. Students will practice mathematics in relation to medication and IV administration.

This course provides an overview to healing modalities currently available in various cities/towns in British Columbia. Principles of pharmacology and pharmacodynamics are addressed. Opportunity is provided for students to explore various complementary healing techniques.An understanding of medications and knowledge of a variety of healing modalities is integral to the nursing role. This course will provide a foundation for safe medication administration, integration of complementary and alternative health care practices, and holistic wellness within the role of registered nurse when caring for the diverse ethnographic populations of Canada. Students will learn the major categories of pharmacotherapeutics, their actions, and nursing implications related to their use. The ethical and legal aspects of medication administration within the context of treatment of disease will be discussed. Students will explore a variety of complementary and alternative healing modalities to augment holistic wellness. Students will be required to use the Internet to obtain information on medications and diverse healing modalities. Students will practice mathematics in relation to medication, safe dose calculations, and intravenous administration.
